Our photo shoot at Frederica Golf Club for the book cover last month was an afternoon of laughs.  Pictured here are three of my players; Stewart Cink holding the Claret Jug from the 2009 Open Championship, Zach Johnson holding his 2007 Masters trophy and Lucas Glover with his 2009 US Open trophy.

This picture (which is one of the cover choices) is my attempt to duplicate the LeBron James magic powder pre-game trademark.   We were all laughing because at five feet, six inches I had to stand behind my players on a bench with no powder to make the magic POOF!  I improvised and the guys couldn’t stop laughing.

Out of the three golfers, only Stewart brought his trophy in the actual case.  Lucas ended up having to pay for lunch for all 8 of us because he was the only one with his membership card.  Zach lives the closest and arrived last and two NFL players who were playing golf completely unaware of the shoot were shocked to see all three trophies just sitting out on a bench in the locker room..unguarded.

And then it was my time in the pressure cooker to practice what I teach.   Stewart, Zach and Lucas were overly entertained watching me get nervous about the photo shoot.  Zach was not late, but he wasn’t early.  Lunch was a little slow, I was worried about the photographer being late and weather was a huge factor.  It was quite a feat to orchestrate 3 major champions along with their trophies and schedule a top dollar photographer to all to arrive at the same time on the same day.  It just about put me over the edge.

Don’t forget to vote on my next book cover and sign up for my newsletter to win an autographed copy.

What You May Have Missed, Round 3: Farmers Insurance Open

February 1, 2010 by Joy · Leave a Comment

Interesting third round pairing last Saturday at the 2010 Farmers Insurance Open.  Lucas Glover was paired with now Champions Tour player, Tom Pernice and headliner Phil Mickelson.  Rewind to the 2005 Funai Classic at Walt Disney World Resort where Glover made a bunker shot to beat Pernice by one shot for his first PGA tour victory.   At the 2009 US Open at Bethpage Black, Lucas Glover won on a Monday finish which prevented Phil Mickelson from his first US Open victory.  Mickelson now has a record of 5 seconds at the US Open.   Probably not a lot of “thanks for your help” type comments between this particular threesome last Saturday.  Be sure to sign up for Dr Mo’s newsletter.   The next edition is about the relationship professional golfers have with getting into, “the zone”.  Including, important tips that you can use to get into your “zone” on the golf course.

Dr Mo has his work cut out for him this week with four players in the Sony Open field at Waialae Country Club in Hawaii.  Sony Open defending champion; Zach Johnson, 2009 US Open Champion; Lucas Glover, 2009 British Open champion; Stewart Cink and PGA Tour winner, Jonathan Byrd making his season debut n Oahu this week.

The two biggest adjustments all players must overcome during the Aloha swing is the time difference and the mind set of being back to competition play.  All of Dr Mo’s PGA Tour players live on the East Coast which is a 5-hour time difference from Hawaii and all had at least a few week’s off over the holiday’s. This week’s Sony Open is the first full field PGA Tour event of 2010 with the last full field PGA Tour event taking place just over 2-months ago at the Children’s Miracle Network classic at Walt Disney World November 12th-15th, 2009.  It’s gearing up to be an incredible 2010 golf season, be sure to sign up for Dr Mo’s newsletter and receive insight you can take to the golf course to improve your own game.

What Matters Most…

Presidents Cup 158Whenever Dr Mo meets with a new student, he tells them two things.  One, is they must have a willingness to be thoroughly examined on how they practice and play so they can learn a new approach to their game (which is often uncomfortable).   Second, in order to get better they have to be open to allowing evaluation of every facet of their game.  This includes what happens on the course, how they practice and prepare, and what happens off the course.   To learn more about Dr Mo’s detailed approach to a students game, be sure to order a copy of Dr Mo’s book and sign up for his newsletter.

PGA Tour Qualifying

December 3, 2009 by Joy · Leave a Comment

imagesPGA Tour qualifying is the one tournament that a professional golfer does not want to qualify for.  It entails 6 rounds of intense golf with only the top 25 golfers and ties earning PGA Tour cards for the upcoming 2010 season.  Dr Mo’s players have all had their own unique experiences attending Q-school.   One memorable experience for Lucas Glover happened at the 2004 PGA Tour qualifying tournament at PGA West.  On the last day, Lucas made two 7’s and then birdied three of his last four holes including the final 108th hole to earn his PGA Tour card on the number.

This week, 3 of Dr Mo’s players round out a strong field at the Chevron World Challenge.  Zach Johnson, who finished 4th on the 2009 PGA Tour money list by winning 2 events in 2009.  Stewart Cink who won the 2009 Open Championship and Lucas Glover who won the 2009 US Open.  Sign up for Dr Mo’s newsletter to learn how you can also have success on the golf course.
