Three of Dr Mo’s players are set to compete October 6th-11th in the eighth Presidents cup at Harding Park Golf Course in San Francisco: Zach Johnson, Stewart Cink and Lucas Glover. It’s a very competitive week on the golf course and busy social calendar for players and their wives. The US Team Captain Fred Couples and International Team Captain Greg Norman have both played in the Presidents Cup during their careers. This biennial competition consists of 34 matches-11 Foursomes (alternate shot) and 11 Four-ball (better ball) matches. On Sunday, there are 12 Singles matches with all the players. If there is a tie on the final day, both teams will share the Presidents Cup title and trophy. September 23, 2009 by Joy · Leave a Comment
Rain is receding as the top 30 players in the FEDEX Cup playoffs have tried their best to stay dry at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. The Tour Championship is the last of the four FEDEX Cup playoff events. Weather will be a factor as more then eleven inches of rain has fallen at East Lake Golf Club . The golf course re-opened Tuesday and the new sub air system has done it’s job quickly drying off the course to make it playable. Rain continues to be in the forecast.
Below are the three scenario’s of what needs to happen for each of Dr Mo’s 3 players in this weeks field to win the FEDEX Cup and the $10-million bonus.
- Zach Johnson ranked 4th is guaranteed to win the FEDEX Cup if he wins the Tour Championship. Zach won twice in 2009, the Sony Open and Valero Texas Open. Zach has won a total of three times in the state of Georgia, recently moved to Georgia and shot a 60 in the Tour Championship at East Lake in 2007.
- Lucas Glover ranked 20th must win the Tour Championship. Tiger Woods must finish no better then 13th, Steve Stricker must finish no better then 5th, Zach Johnson, Heath Slocum and Padraig Harrington must finish 3rd or worse. Lucas Glover won the 2009 US Open, has had four top ten finishes in 2009 and tied for 8th at the 2006 Tour Championship.
- Stewart Cink ranked 26th must win the Tour Championship. Tiger Woods must finish 22nd or worse. Steve Stricker must finish 7th or worse, Jim Furyk 5th or worse, Zach Johnson 4th or worse, Heath Slocum and Padraig Harrington must finish 3rd or worse. Stewart Cink won the 2009 British Open, he played at Georgia Tech, lives near Atlanta and East Lake Golf Club is Cink’s home golf course.
Weather permitting, someone will win the FEDEX Cup and the 10-million dollar bonus Sunday.
FedEx Points reset for Tour Championship
September 19, 2009 by Joy · Leave a Comment
Dr Mo has 3 players in the final PGA Tour play-off event at East Lake. After the BMW Championship, FedExCup points were reset and Zach Johnson is seeded 4th, Lucas Glover 20th, and Stewart Cink 26th. Zach Johnson is making his fourth appearence in the Tour Championship, his last being in 2007 when he finished in a tie for second place. If any of the first five seeds going into the Tour championship wins at East Lake, he will win the FedExCup title. However, the Tour Championship has the same points distribution as the first three Playoff events and if seeds 6-10 win the Tour Championship there is still a chance they could win the FedExCup title. All 3 of Dr Mo’s players still remaining are gearing up for hopefully a great stretch as Zach, Lucas, and Stewart are all also in the President’s Cup in 3 weeks. Dr Mo will be seeing a lot of his players over the next few weeks in hopes that they have success in both Atlanta (Tour Championship) and San Francisco (President’s Cup). If all goes well, great golf from coast-to-coast!!
