During this time, he studied under Dr. Bob Rotella and focused his research and consulting interests in the area of golf psychology, specifically the acquisition of putting confidence. Dr Morris Pickens is a resident sports psychologist and performance specialist at the Sea Island Golf Learning Center. Three of Dr Mo’s students are exempt for the 2010 PGA Championship field. Zach Johnson/2007 Masters Champion, Lucas Glover/2009 US Open Champion and Stewart Cink/2009 British Open Champion. Eligibility for the 156-man field is below.

1. All former PGA Champions
2. Winners of the last five U.S. Opens (2006-2010)
3. Winners of the last five Masters (2006-2010)
4. Winners of the last five British Opens (2006-2010)
5. The 2010 Senior PGA Champion
6. The 15 low scorers and ties in the 2009 PGA Championship
7. The 20 low scorers in the 2010 PGA Professional National Championship
8. The 70 leaders from the PGA Championship Points list from the 2009 World
Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational through the 2010 Greenbrier
Classic
9. Members of the 2008 United States and European Ryder Cup Teams
providing they remain within the top 100 of the World Golf Rankings as of
Aug. 2, 2010.
10. Winners of tournaments co-sponsored or approved by the PGA Tour from the
2009 PGA Championship to the 2010 PGA Championship (does not include
pro-am and team competitions).
11. Vacancies will be filled by the first available player from the list of alternates
(those below 70th place in the PGA Championship Points list from the 2009
World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational through the 2010
Greenbrier Classic
12. In addition, The PGA of America reserves the right to invite additional players
not included in the categories listed above. The total field will be a maximum
of 156 players.

Glad I arrived a few days early to St Andrews, the hardest part about any major for all players is getting to Thursday’s first round without wearing yourself out Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with too much practice and worry. Stewart, Lucas & Zach are among a field of 156 players (147 professionals and nine amateurs).

Stewart Cink Returns to HP Byron Nelson

While three of Dr Mo’s players, Lucas Glover, Zach Johnson and Jonathan Byrd are in Sea Island this week tweaking their games for the next stretch leading up to the US Open. One of Dr Mo’s players, reigning British Open champion Stewart Cink is in the field at this week’s HP Byron Nelson Championship in Fort Worth, TX. Stewart hasn’t played the Byron Nelson tournament since a T40 in 2005 and is looking forward to the $10 million golf course re-design.

Not in the field this week but on site Tuesday, Tom Watson received the 2010 Byron Nelson prize. The Byron Nelson Prize is awarded to a person in the golf world who embodies the same philanthropic spirit for which Byron Nelson was known.

Zach Johnson Seeks Three-Peat at Valero Texas Open

One of Dr Mo’s players goes for a rare feat when he tees it up in San Antonio at this weeks PGA Tour stop. Two-time defending champion, Zach Johnson has the opportunity to win his 3rd straight title at the Valero Texas Open .

This years venue changed to the Greg Norman and Sergio Garcia designed Oaks course at TPC of San Antonio. High winds, deep bunkers, undulating greens and elevation will be unavoidable elements that the entire field will be faced with.

Inside the Field; Quail Hollow Championship

Now in its eighth year, the Quail Hollow Championship not only feels like a major but it will have an audience to match. Tickets are sold out, the golf course is in spectacular condition and it’s one of the strongest tournament fields in golf this season. Phil Mickelson is scheduled to play for the first time since his Masters victory and Tiger Woods will be playing in his first regular PGA Tour event of 2010.
Dr Morris Pickens is on site this week at Quail Hollow working with four of his top PGA Tour players. Lucas Glover tied for 2nd at this event last year, Jonathan Byrd finished tied for 5^th, Zach Johnson led after 3 rounds and Stewart Cink currently sits 25^th in world golf rankings.
