What a week at Quail Hollow!! Lucas had a chance to win and finished T2, Jbyrd shot the round of the day on Sunday and moved from 37th to T5 (his best finish of the year), and Zach struggled on Sunday but still had another very solid finish (T11). All in all, a great week and more importantly, tons of learning!
Jbyrd had to birdie his final two holes Friday to make the cut on the number and then showed great poise and perseverance on the weekend, Lucas had a great short-game week, leading the field in scrambling, and not having a single 3-putt all week (that’s ridiculous on those greens), and Zach hung in there after a terrible start to his round on Sunday. He fought back valiantly, never threw in the towel (and he never has nor will he), and was still in contention on the back nine but just couldn’t get any putts to drop. I look for him to win again soon. Just like his buddy Sean O’Hair did yesterday a few weeks after Bay Hill, I look for him to bounce back in a big way somewhere in the next month or so!
And now on to TPC! What a great event and week. The course will be hard as always but I think several guys have a chance to get in the mix. Zach and Davis have both played well there in the past (w/ DLIII having won it twice), Jbyrd’s game seems to really be coming around, and Vaughn is due for some solid play to turn into a great week and it wouldn’t surprise me a bit for him to be in contention this week. Lucas has not played well at TPC historically but following last week, I look for that trend to reverse this year. I’ll keep you updated as the week goes on, so check out those Tweets!
