3 Golf Psychology Tips to Change Your Game From the Inside
In the dynamic world of golf, every swing presents an opportunity for triumph or challenge. Mastering the mental game becomes an art, and in the video below, I'll share my insights for confidently navigating pressure shots. Let's delve into 3 ways to think differently so you can perform differently because thinking better to score better are the core principles that fortify mental resilience in my course.
My 3 Golf Psychology Tips to Score Better
1 Practice How to Have an Immediate Positive Reaction:
Nobody starts off at an early age saying negative comments after a poor shot, that’s a learned behavior and to change this habit you will have to practice. These immediate negative reactions hinder your performance and players who practice to change their reactions are rewarded.
Incorporating this mindset into regular practice sessions builds a solid foundation for mental fortitude.
Please go out and practice what you say while the ball is still in the air and change the way you think to score better. Watch the video below for some examples.
2 Deciding on Bad Bad:
Challenge the notion that only 'good-good' outcomes should bring joy. Pre-determine that only 'bad-bad' results have the potential to upset you, regaining control over your emotional energy. Concentrate on elements within your control, fostering a positive mindset and conserving energy for constructive pursuits.

3 Negative Self-Talk: Skill-Oriented and Temporary:
When faced with a subpar shot, channel any negative comments toward the skill and make them temporary. Reframe the narrative from "I'm a terrible putter" to "My putting wasn't good today." Ensure self-talk remains focused on skill improvement, fostering a growth-oriented mindset. “I’m a terrible putter” is about you and makes it permanent, but to give yourself the mental space to grow, your self-talk must be temporary to allow for the way you play to change. Transcending Conventional Thinking:
Challenge conventional thinking and embrace a mindset shift. These strategies aren't just for pressure situations; they're designed to elevate your overall golfing experience. Break away from traditional norms and adopt a mindset that fosters improved performance, resilience, and more enjoyment on the course.
These practices can benefit anyone and while I’ve highlighted my pro students like Keegan Bradley I’ve also seen my students benefit whether they’re weekend players aiming to improve and beat their buddies, high school players preparing for college, or pros.
